I bought a couple of these from MadVapes about a week and a half before Christmas.  One for myself and one as a Christmas gift for my mother.  It is my first non-homebrew PV mod.  I have been using it as my daily use PV since I received it, and am extremely happy with it. Continue reading »

Edit:  This needs to be updated, as I’ve “lived and learned” since I wrote this.  Vaping really is an evolutionary process.  I’ll try to get something new up soon reflecting what I know now.

I’ve been asked many times for advice from people who are looking to switch over to e-cigs/vaping on what they need or where to get started.  I decided that I could save myself some typing by putting the information here.

I still had an 18650 battery holder, a momentary switch, and an 808 battery side connector that I hadn’t done anything with lying around.  I was getting tired of staring at them, so I decided that I would search my apartment and come up with something different to make a PV out of. I’ve been doing the vaping thing for a few months and am very happy with it.  Being a geek, however, I can’t really just leave well enough alone.  It’s time to start playing with this stuff!  So, it was time for me to build my first homebrew PV. :) Continue reading »

These are clear tank type cartomizers designed for use with KR808D style batteries.  In the picture above, it is attached to one of my standard size manual batteries from V4L for size reference.  Please note that this review is specific to the lower resistance model. Continue reading »

In the beginning…

About a month and a half ago I got curious about electronic cigarettes.  I smoked 1.5 packs a day, had been smoking since I was a teenager, and  I had no real intention of quitting smoking.  I’m a geek, it’s a gadget, and you can use it where you normally can’t smoke.  It basically looked like a neat toy.  I started looking around online but my impatience got the best of me, so I decided to try out one of the cheap models they sell at truck stops.

I did some work on the blog today.  Updated WordPress to 3.1 and updated the theme and a bunch of plugins.

I also added askimet (spam filtering) and a captcha to the comment and registration pages.  I hate to require a captcha, but the spammers have been blowing up my email with comment moderation requests and user registrations.  I deleted 700+ spam comments and 400+ users.  I don’t think I deleted anyone real, but if I did just re-register.

I think I got the facebook linkage working better, but I need to find someone who’s not registered on the blog and get them to sign in with their facebook account and see how it works out.  People should also be able to comment using their facebook profile without needing to log in/register with the blog itself.

Sometimes having programming skills comes in very handy, particularly when you’re trying to be as lazy as you can possibly be.

I have a MythTV DVR system setup in my apartment.  One of the features of this system is that any of the Linux systems (Which is all 5 of my home computers) on my LAN can connect to the backend server and be used to watch live TV or shows that I have recorded on the backend.

In my home office, I’ve got two PC’s setup.  This allows me to use one as a TV while I’m working on the other.

This setup suits my needs nicely, but there was one minor annoyance.  I had to move from computer to computer any time I wanted to adjust the volume, change channels, skip commercials, etc.

Most people would just accept it as is (well, most people wouldn’t have built their own DVR either, heh), but being a geek it was time to flex some creative mental muscle.

(There is an embedded player on this post, but you may have to scroll down a bit to see it.  For some reason it’s inserting a huge whitespace before itself)

I recently went to the Telecommunicators single release show for “Sorrows”.  A friend and karaoke regular of mine Matt is the lead singer and plays keyboard in the band.

As a karaoke DJ in Nashville, you can imagine how many people I’ve met in bands of one sort or another over the years.  Honestly, beyond politely listening to them talking about their plans and wishing them well I don’t usually really pay much attention.  I have had some regulars who were successful musicians in one capacity or another, and some who went on to become so, but it is certainly the exception to the rule.

The first time I went to one of their shows I really didn’t expect much.  Don’t get me wrong, I already knew Matt was a great singer and looked forward to seeing him and my other friends at the show, but my expectations were tempered by past experience.  It takes far more than just a good voice to make a good band.

I was VERY pleasantly surprised!  From the first song in their set I became an instant fan.  This was no cheesy cover band, they had their own songs with their own unique sound, a sound and style that very much appealed to my tastes.  I didn’t have to give sympathy applause and empty polite compliments, I honestly loved the music.
